When graphic recorders take visual notes on site, they work on either paper or foam core sheets. Though I use paper on occasion, I’m usually a foam core person. Foam core sheets are light and it’s easy to put titles and other information on them beforehand. Switching between sessions is a breeze—you just pop the next one on your easel. And they look really nice displayed around an event space.
But foam core has plenty of downsides. The 40” x 60” sheets I use are awkward to carry, and it seems like they get dented by everything they touch. They rarely fit on wheeled carts, which inevitably means multiple trips to lobbies and loading docks. Rainy days are trauma, but worse is wind, which turns foam core sheets into sails. If you don’t hold your foam core at just the rate angle, a gust will rip it from your hands and send it skittering down a dirty street, Or, if you manage to hold on, bend it, leaving a big, ugly crease. Plus, foam core ain’t cheap.
That said, I until I find something that suits me better, foam core it will be. Want to talk adding some visual magic to your next event? Get in touch!
