Like A Snake Eating Its Tail

I recently read an article about how worried researchers are about the amount of AI-generated content on the internet. Apparently, it’s become so pervasive that a significant portion of what AI now scrapes is also AI, resulting in a cycle of increasingly less reliable results, like a snake devouring its tail. For this reason, researchers now put a premium on content created before 2022, when ChatGPT became publicly available, though since that content is also digital, preserving it in the long term will be challenging..

The notion that generative AI is increasingly regurgitating itself only shows how vital and important the products of real human brains and hands continue to be. As a graphic recorder, cartoonist, and proud owner of a pre-internet cerebellum, I can guarantee that what my clients and readers get from me has nothing to do with an algorithm. And while I don’t claim that all, or most of what I create is utterly original (you don’t have to be a great artist to steal), the result is still a unique creation that couldn’t be the work of another human being, let alone a robot.

AI is an important tool, and one I use all the time. But when it comes to engaging people, especially in a group setting, nothing beats another person in the room. That’s what makes live graphic recording so effective for increasing understanding, generating excitement, and fostering collaboration.
