Last Thursday, I spent the day graphic recording a meeting for Pushing Progress Philly (P3), an anti-violence community organization here in Philadelphia. I captured two sessions: one was an inspirational talk by speaker and author OG Law, and the other was a discussion featuring some very compelling stories from currently incarcerated men, who spoke and interacted with attendees via Zoom.
One of the things I love about graphic recording is being invited into spaces I otherwise wouldn’t have access to. It’s an honor to be present during raw, honest, and vulnerable moments, and to translate those moments into visuals that help people feel seen and heard. I left the event feeling grateful for P3’s trust in me and the participants’ enthusiasm for what I created. Graphic recording can be a difficult and demanding job, but this is the sort of experience that makes it all worthwhile.
