Seeing The Forest

When I’m graphic recording at events, attendees often ask me if I have any background in their organization’s work. They’re usually surprised when I tell them I don’t. How, they want to know, can I record their discussions so effectively when I’m almost completely unfamiliar with the topics they’re discussing?

The truth is, it isn’t necessary for a graphic recorder to know much, or anything, about what their clients do. Whether they manufacture trucks or advocate for affordable housing, the internal issues organizations grapple with are usually very similar. Topic details are important, of course, but they’re also things participants are already familiar with. The real value of graphic recording is the way it visually captures what was actually said and felt at an event. It’s a record of real-time experience that can’t be found on downloaded powerpoint decks.

Because I’ve learned to see a client’s forest, I don’t need to worry about their trees. Whatever the conversation your organization has, Breakthrough Visuals has the skills and experience to transform it into colorful graphics that will engage and energize participants during your event, and long after it’s done.
