What goes into graphic recording? The time spent actually capturing an event on site, which is what clients inquire about when considering my services, is actually just the tip of the iceberg. Any graphic recording job will also include:
➡️ Pre-event meetings and preparation of boards.
➡️ Travel time, including arriving early enough to park, take materials into the
building, and set up (generally, I try to give myself an hour and a half).
➡️ Post-event production, including photographing the work on-site, digitally correcting it at home and then sending it to the client.
Given all that, even an hour-long engagement can easily mean half a day or more of work, which is why graphic recorders don’t usually charge strictly by the hour.
Fortunately, when it comes to the value graphic recording adds, the creation of visual notes at an event is also just the tip of the iceberg. When you take into account the engagement, excitement, and creativity graphic recording adds, the discussion it fosters and the takeaways it reinforces, it’s easy to see how hiring a graphic recorder is well worth the investment.
