Workshop At The IFVP Conference

One of the great pleasures of my year is attending the annual International Forum of Visual Practitioners (IFVP) conference. The IFVP is the professional organization of graphic recorders, and when I say the conference is annual, I mean it was before 2020, when the pandemic led to its cancellation. It was held again in Bilboa, Spain in 2022, but this year’s conference, from July 31-August 3, in Montclair, New Jersey, was the first US one in 5 years.

Besides catching up with old friends, and meeting a bunch of new ones, the highlight was hosting a workshop called We Can Draw Hard Things, with Emily Mills. The workshop, geared to other graphic recorders, offered tips on, among other things, rendering arms without elbows (easier to draw fast), and sketching cows (harder than you’d think).

Thanks to all the organizers for a really fantastic event, especially Sarah Spencer for taking most of these photos. Visual workshops aren’t just for seasoned scribes, BTW. Anyone can learn to use graphic recording tools to take notes and communicate. Interested in a workshop for your work team? Find out more!
